Hormalake and Hormalake-society

Hormalake is situated in Southern Finland, town called Lohja, 60 km from the capital city Helsinki to west. The surface area of the lake is 5,1 km² and the hight from sea-level is 32,5 meters. The lake is known for its clear water. The maximum deepness of Hormalake is 21 meters. Hormalake flows into Lohjalake, which is a bigger lake.

The Hormalake-society is concerned about the condition of lake and takes care of it with different methods. The homepage of the Hormalake-society gives diverse information about making the lake cleaner.

The association was founded already in 1968 as an inhabitant-association to protect Hormalake, which became officially Hormalake-society in 1991. There are 180 members in the association in the beginning of 2007. The members of the comitee are chosen from summerhabitants, representatives of fixed habitation, of agriculture and forestry as well as those interested in fishing.

The annual year gathering is organized in July-August. Then the inhabitants meet the comitee. Financing for removing waterplants has been gotten through the town of Lohja, Karjaanjokilife project and Kanneljärvi school.
